Ingrown toe nail

overview:

  • It is growth of toe nail on the side inside soft tissues of the finger, which leads to pain, swelling and inflammation sometimes
  • It may occur in all toes, but it is often in first toe

 

Symptoms:

  • Unilateral or bilateral toe pain
  • Redness around the nail
  • Swelling around the nail
  • Toe infection and abscess may form

 

Causes:

  • Wearing tight shoes
  • Cutting toenails too short or not straight across.
  • Injuring a toenail.
  • Having very curved toenails.
  • Sweating feet
  • Diabetes mellitus

 

Diagnosis:

  • clinical examination

 

Treatment:

  • Wear suitable shoes
  • Nail Care
  • partial nail removal
  • Complete removal of nail in severe and recurrent cases
  • Wound healing if present, as in diabetes
